Abstract:
A brief introduction concerning the history of flow systems and membrane separations is given. A theoretical background on flow-injection analysis is given. The theory and operation of an on-line dialysis system is discussed. The following factors influencing the efficiency of dialysis in a flow system was studied: The flow rate of the donor- and acceptor streams respectively; the area of the membrane through which dialysis should take place; co-and counter flow of the donor and acceptor respectively; the volume of the donor- and accepter streams. The studies concerning the volume- and area factors, was done in a closed loop system. An investigation is made into dialysers in series. An investigation is made into the on-line dilution and pre-concentration of a sample by means of dialysis. The development and optimisation of this system is discussed.
