Abstract
Description
Clinical history : A 16 year old male with a heart murmur and was diagnosed with mitral stenosis and was also investigated for bacterial endocarditis.
He also had splenomegaly and drumstick fingers with a mid diastolic murmur.
The pulse was irregular and the patient later developed acute pulmonary edema prior to death.
Autopsy findings : 1. Left atrial myxoma.
2. Myxcoma emboli in the myocardial arteries with interstiteal fibrosis in the renal arteries with renal infarction.
3. Pronounced pulmonary edema.
Diagnosis: Left atrial myxoma and myxoma embolism
