dc.description.abstractThis July issue mentions the second Veterinary Faculty in South Africa and touches on the fifteen new Beagle puppies received with the assistance of ClinVet and a general invitation to Faculty members to suggest names for the new additions. It covers the Wildlife Clinic's role in pulling through eighteen poisoned vultures, the successful completion of another Faculty Day with Dr Mark Penning, an alumnus of the Faculty, as keynote speaker. Prof L McGaw received the Researcher of the Year award, Dr J Hanekom the Emerging Researcher of the year award, Andeliza Smit with the Best Oral Presentation, Megan Antrobus with Best Poster presentation, and Le Roux Pepler as the Best VRE Student. OPPIHUB, a new postgraduate information hub, is launched with collaboration of the OP PGSA. Funding discussions with DHET is in progress regarding National Skills applications and a new application is submitted to HWSETA. Faculty is looking into a business model and partnership with Easichicken, while investigations is in progress on involving private practice in final year student training. The Dept of Agriculture approached the faculty to get involved in the relooking of the Animal Protections Act. Philanthropist, Gary Taylor, obtained rights to the wedge of land adjacent to the faculty and agreed to allow Faculty the use of the land.en_US
