Abstract

1. Attempts have been made to isolate and estimate some of the organic acids, chiefly lower fatty acids, said to be present in small quantities in suint. Apart from the identification of benzoic acid as a decomposition product of hippuric acid, a satisfactory separation of these acids could not be achieved, owing to the small quantities present. 2. In olfactory tests, suint preparations and extracts (e.g. acid fractions) failed to attract blowflies. No correlation between suint composition and blowfly strike could, therefore, be demonstrated.
