| dc.description.abstract | This presentation was delivered at the LIASA-IGBIS Webinar: 'Contextualising data: shaping the roles, functions, and competencies of metadata practitioners in the organisation of information resources for the digital era' on 6 October 2020. It gives an overview of scholarly communications and typical scholarly communication activities in libraries and highlight these with examples from the University of Pretoria Library Services. It then briefly gives an overview of Research Data Management and related concepts such as digital curation, data curation, data stewardship, data governance and data archiving. This is then followed by a description of typical data curation activities, scholarly communication support in the research lifecycle, and potential activities in which metadata practitioners can play a role. It then concludes with training/upskilling opportunities for seasoned cataloguing practitioners, the role that LIASA-IGBIS can play and the possible future of Scholarly Communications. | en_ZA |
