studie gestel:
Persoonlikheidsfaktorvraelys (16-PF), Fisioterapie as beroep, Fisioterapie in die bedryf
suksesvo Ile fisioterapiestudent.
as die geharde student (Faktor I).
English: The main objective of the study was to determine the personality profile of the successful
physiotherapy student at the University of Pretoria.
To meet the requirements of the main objective the following goals were stated:
i) The determination of the characteristic 16-Personality Factor questionnaire (16-
PF) profile of the more successful physiotherapy student according to academic
achievement.
ii) To what extent the 16-PF profile distinguishes between more and less successful
physiotherapy students according to their academic achievement.
iii) To use panel assessments to determine the profile of the successful
physiotherapist according to physiotherapists in practice. A literature study was undertaken to include aspects such as the selection of physiotherapy
students, the 16-Personality Factor questionnaire (16-PF), physiotherapy as career,
physiotherapy in practice and career success.
An emperical study was undertaken to achieve the above-mentioned objectives and goals.
The academic achievements of the students concerned were obtained, as well as the 16-PF
questionnaire completed by all physiotherapy students (first to fourth years) and the nonselected
students. Questionnaires were handed to physiotherapists in practice to determine
the personality profile of the successful physiotherapy student according to the 16-PF
dimensions.
The conclusions of the emperical study were:
Factor + A and Factor + I are characteristic factors of the academically more
successful physiotherapy student.
The warmhearted and empathetic student tends to be more academically
successful than the withdrawn and reserved student (Factor A).
The sensitive student tends to be more academically successful than the toughminded
student (Factor I).
The profile of the successful physiotherapy student differs from the profile of the
unsuccessful physiotherapy student. The profile of the successful physiotherapy
student can therefore be utilized effectively in the selection process.
It seems as if there is a degree of correlation between the profile of the successful
physiotherapy student and the profile as determined by physiotherapists in
practice.
