Abstract:
Correct identification of a (genome-sequenced) strain is an essential step in evolutionary
and comparative genomic studies. It came to our attention that the number of publicly
available misidentified genome-sequenced strains is increasing. By using the order Eurotiales
(Aspergillus, Penicillium, Talaromyces, and related genera) as an example, in this letter we
want to increase awareness among readers of Microbiology Resource Announcements of
this ongoing problem and give recommendations to ensure availability and correct strain
identification in the future.
