Korrektiewe á beamptes (Graad 1) bevind hulle teen 'n glasplafon wat
loopbaanvordering betref. Afgesien van die feit dat korrektiewe beamptes
daagliks in moeilike omstandighede werk, het die vooruitsig van beperkte
loopbaangeleenthede ook 'n invloed op die werksbevrediging, werksprestasie en
persoonlike lewens van korrektiewe beamptes.
'n Volledige literatuurstudie is uitgevoer ten einde die betekenis van werk- en
loopbaanontwikkeling te ondersoek. Die literatuurstudie het gevolg op 'n
empiriese ondersoek. 'n Vraelys, bestaande uit twee afdelings, is gebruik om
respondente se menings oor beperkte loopbaangeleenthede in die Departement
Korrektiewe Dienste te ondersoek.
Respondente vir die studie is op 'n proporsioneel-gestratifiseerde wyse
geselekteer, naamlik die populasie wat afgebaken is tot korrektiewe beamptes
wat werksaam is te Pretoria Sentraalgevangenes.
Die studie is onderneem met die doel om te bepaal wat korrektiewe beamptes
se belewenis van loopbaangeleenthede in die Depatrtement Korrektiewe Dienste
is.
Alhoewel daar verskeie redes bestaan hoekom mense werk, is dit duidelik dat
mense nie slegs vir finansiele gewin werk nie, maar ook die verwagting koester om 'n loopbaan te bou waar die individu kan groei en ontwikkel. Daar bestaan
altyd verwagtings om te vorder in 'n loopbaan. Waar loopbaanvordering verhoed
word, lei dit dikwels tot verminderde werksprestasie en -bevrediging, laer
kwaliteit werkslewe en 'n moontlike impak op die gesinslewe van die werknemer.
Bevindings uit die studie wys duidelik daarop dat korrektiewe beamptes van
mening is dat hulle beperkte loopbaangeleenthede in die Departement
Korrektiewe Dienste ervaar. Die belewenis van beperkte loopbaangeleenthede,
het 'n invloed op die korrektiewe beampte se werksbevrediging en -prestasie,
asook die kwaliteit van sy werk- en gesinslewe.
Gevolgtrekkings en aanbevelings is gemaak op grond van die empiriese
bevindings. Die navorser hoop die gevolgtrekkings en bevindings mag van
waarde wees en het 'n aandeel in die verbetering van die werkslewe en
loopbaangeleenthede van die korrektiewe beampte. |

Correctional Officers (Grade 1) find themselves against a glass ceiling in terms of
career progress. In spite of the fact that correctional officers are working under
difficult circumstances, limited career prospects too, have an influence on their
job satisfaction, work performance and personal lives.
A complete literature study was conducted in order to explore the meaning of
work and career development. Following the literature study the researcher
utilized a questionnaire consisting of two sections as part of an empirical
investigation, in order to establish respondent's views on the influence of limited
career prospects. Respondents for the study were selected according to the
randomized stratified sampling method in the population which was restricted to
correctional officers working in Pretoria Central Prison.
The goal of the study is to explore the perceptions of correctional officers
regarding career prospects in the Department of Correctional Services.
Although financial gain is the most important reason for working, people also
have expectations to build a career and to grow and develop in their careers.
Expectations to exceed in a career is normal. When career progress is
prevented in one way or another, it can lead to a decrease in job performance
and satisfaction, the deterioration of a quality work life and can influence the
family life of the employee. The study concluded that correctional officers have the perception that limited
career prospects exist in the Department of Correctional Services. The
experience of limited career prospects has a negative influence on the job
satisfaction, work performance, quality of work life and personal lives of
correctional officers.
Conclusions and recommendations are proposed according to the empirical
findings. The researcher hopes that the conclusions and recommendations may
contribute in a small way to the improvement of career prospects of correctional
officers in the Department of Correctional Services. |
