dc.description General Jacobus Herculaas de la Rey (1847 - 1914) was a Boer General during the Anglo Boer War (1899 - 1902). In 1914 when the Union of South Africa took the decision to declare war against Germany, he was one of the Boer leaders that were calling for a rebellion. De la Rey was shot and killed in a Police blockade while returning from a rebel meeting. This work was made for his headstone and is in the Lichtenburg Cemetery in the North Western Province. en_ZA
