dc.description.abstract In 2001, the Nederduitsch Hervormde Church decided that apologetics should be part of its apostolate. The author introduces the subject of apologetics to the church. This he does by means of a historical overview of the development of the subject. Special attention is given to the early apologetic fathers and theologians of the 19th and 20th centuries. The emphasis falls on the problematic relationship between faith and science, questions concerning the truth of the gospel, the mission of the church and the problem of multi-religiosity. en
