The Nederduitsch Hervormde Kerk van Afrika frequently refers to the church as a 'peoples church' ('volkskerk'). Owing to political changes in South Africa, the qualification 'volkskerk', has created a certain amount of disturbance in the ranks of the Nederduitsch Hervormde Kerk. This study analyses the relation between culture and preaching from different hermeneutical perspectives, namely: the cultural embedding of the biblical kerygma; the interwoveness of language and culture, and the necessity of contextuality in preaching.13 pagesPDFAfrikaansFaculty of Theology, University of PretoriaVolkskerkPreachingChurchChurch and stateChurch and societyNederduitsch Hervormde Kerk van AfrikaPrediking en kultuurPreaching and cultureArticle
