It is a multi-dimensional model that acts as a communication and information resource over the lifecycle of a construction project. It consists of 3-dimensional (3D) design functions, cost estimating functions and programming and scheduling functions. BIM will open up a whole new level of data sharing in the construction industry. This brings forth many advantages but also a list of risks and changes to the traditional structure of the construction industry.
