Geometric designs are, however, all too often, undertaken without the knowledge of what the infrastructure is being designed for. Concept design reports are produced, stating that the detailed traffic/transport planning work will be done during Preliminary Design. The future traffic/patronage loading is the fundamental input into any infrastructure and transport service design. This session highlights this importance, as well as taking into consideration all design parameters from the transport studies. It requires Critical Thinking to ensure all aspects of the environment are considered, resulting in effective infrastructure and designed in an efficient (cost effective) manner.1 pagePDFenSouthern African Transport Conference 2024Geometric designImportance of traffic input into geometric designArticle
