Born in Johannesburg, he matriculated at King Edward VII School and qualified with a BVSc from Onderstepoort in 1964. He began his career in small animal practice in the East Rand and emigrated to Canada in 1976. In Canada, he worked in companion animal practice in Calgary, later establishing his own practice until retirement. He continued assisting at the Cochrane Veterinary Care Clinic and received the ABVMA 35-Year Recognition Award.
