In this study, steady-state laminar forced convection heat transfer in a horizontal smooth rectangular duct was investigated both experimentally and numerically in the Reynolds number range of 295 to 2019. Velocity and temperature distribution begin to develop simultaneously in the heated section. A constant temperature boundary condition was applied on bottom surface of the duct. A commercial CFD program Ansys Fluent 6.3.26 was used to carry out the numerical study. Based on the present experimental and numerical study, new engineering data were presented fur the heat transfer and friction coefficients. The maximum relative uncertainties are estimated to be 2.83 and 3.11 % for average Darcy friction factor and average Nusselt number, respectively. It is seen that there is a good agreement between the present experimental and numerical results.
