Abstract

Since the inception of a routine pathological diagnostic service at Onderstepoort over 18,000 pathological specimens have been submitted for histological diagnosis over a period of some fifteen years. Much of this material had been earmarked as of interest for further examination or for museum purposes and among it occurs a wealth of examples of neoplastic disease in the domesticated animals. The present work is the result of a programme to make this material conveniently available for reference and further study, whereby it is proposed to establish a complete collection of microscopic preparations representative of the pathology of domesticated animals in this country serving at once as a check on the accuracy of the diagnosis of the macroscopic specimens in the extensive museum of pathology which has been built up at this and supplementing the study of this material from the histological standpoint.
