Abstract
Industry 4.0 is revolutionizing all sectors including maritime and has a powerful impact on
globalization by increasing access to new skills and knowledge. The World Economic
Forum estimates that, by 2025, 50% of all employees may need reskilling due to adopting
new technology. Five to ten years to twenty from now, over two-thirds of skills considered
important in transport and port logistics may change. The challenge lies therefore in how to
prepare today for that future world of work in identifying essential skills consisting of
technology competencies not yet regarded as crucial to today's job requirements within
port logistics. Efforts should be taken to therefore create new out-of-the-box-thinking
learning opportunities, such as reskilling and upskilling, accessible, available, and
affordable to the workforce. This presentation provides a unique perspective regarding a
future-ready learning society as an essential integral of the vision of Industry 4.0 within
transport and port logistics.
