This paper looks at the development and implementation of asset classification (asset tagging) and digital model development to improve road infrastructure design, using an Australian road project as a case study. Leveraging asset tagging and digital model development aims to bring several benefits, including more efficient management of infrastructure assets across their lifecycle, improved accuracy in road design, and streamlined communication between stakeholders. By embedding unique asset information within a comprehensive digital model, the project seeks to lay a foundation for enhanced monitoring and maintenance practices, ultimately aiming to support more sustainable and resilient road networks. By focusing on data-driven design and enhanced asset visibility, the case study offers insights into an approach that can be adapted or expanded to increase mobility impacts without a significant corresponding increase in resources or costs for infrastructure challenges. This ultimately benefits communities as well as the broader infrastructure landscape.
