Description

Clinical history : A thirteen year old female patient in semi-coma with septicaemia and positive Kernig and Brudzinski signs.
Lumbar puncture was done and acute leptomeningitis diagnosed.
Streptococcus pneumoniae was isolated from the fluid. The patient died 3 hours after admission.
Autopsy findings : 1. Acute leptomeningitis (S.pneumoniae).
2. Infective endocarditis ofmitral valve.
3. Rheumatic myocarditis.
4. Bronchopneumonia-conjluent.
5. Septic embolization to kidney, brain, bone marrow and myocardium.
Diagnosis: Acute infective endocarditis of mitral valve
