Description

Clinical history : A 21 year old male had history of coughing and weakness with pain in the legs.
Examination showed fever, gangrene of the lower legs and shoulders; he was acutely ill and toxic with herpes simplex lesions in his lips.
Consolidation of the lower lobe of the right lung was present and on blood culture coagulase positive staphylococci was isolated.
Autopsy findings : 1. Staphylococcus pneumonia of right lung.
2. Multiple areas of gangrene of the skin due to septic thrombi.
3. Subacute splenitis.
Diagnosis: Staphylococcus pneumonia
