Abstract

Description

Clinical history : A male baby 14 weeks old was admitted into hospital as an emergency with severe nappy rash and widespread skin haemorrhages.
The child died in spite of resuscitation attempts.
Autopsy findings : 1. Neisseria meningitides septicaemia.
2. Wide-spread pupura and ecchymoses in skin.
3. Disseminated intravascular coagulation.
4. Bilateral adrenal gland haemorrhages.
Diagnosis: Haemorrhage as a result of Neisseria meningitides septicaemia (Waterhous-Fredrichson syndrome)
