dc.description.abstractHeadlines reminding us of the poor state of education in South Africa have become commonplace. Statistics revealing the dire state of learners’ performances, however, have to be put into perspective. The disturbing reality is that the majority of learners who are branded as “among the worst in the world” are located at the former black schools in contrast to learners at former outperforming their counterparts at the previously disadvantaged schools.en
