dc.description.abstractWithin the socio-economic sphere, the development and nurturing of small medium micro enterprises will be a feature of any emerging economy into the fore-seeable future. In this context, the interventions by institutions in society have focused on the sector as a whole, with different measures of success. This study sets out to understand the differences, if any, between the characteristics of resource-constrained entrepreneurs. The study is exploratory in nature and it investigates the differences in characteristics using a grounded theory building methodology. It uses the themes developed from this method to formulate the categories of entrepreneurs, where upon recommendations are based for interventions that focus on supporting the entrepreneur in the context of his or her endeavor.en
