dc.description.abstractDr P.J.J. Fourie was born on 24/9/1894 on the farm Lubbeshoop in the Luckhoff district, Orange Free State. He travelled to Dublin where he obtained his MRCVS diploma on 12/7 /1919. After qualifying as a veterinary surgeon he returned to South Africa and served in the Veterinary Division as GVO at Grootfontein (1920-1921), Onderstepoort (1922-1923) and Vryburg (1924-1925). He finally became professor of Meat and Milk Hygiene in which capacity he served for many years (until 1954) (Source: Past Veterinarians of South Africa / PJ Posthumas, 10th edition)en_ZA
