The eastern edge of Diepsloot depicts a boundary condition of tension between human habitation and natural environments. This boundary condition allows for the opportunity to explore the potential manner in which the relationship between man-made and natural environments manifest as a symbiotic spatial construct within the context of an urban fringe. Natural environments are not just amenities or mere resources, they play a vital role in human's mental, physical and social well-being. This dissertation aims to critique the current manner in which rituals are performed and their spatial implication, while employing biophilic design principles as a foundation for the design process for the rituals of St. John's Apostolic Faith Mission. The architectural response would improve the community's daily rituals through the incision of education, civic, social and religious activities within the complex. The proposed religious complex is located on an unused ecological site, along a proposed K54 provincial road and south of Tanganani Extension 4. It is near Diepsloot Mall, the commercial heart of the area. The facility is used as a generator for additional educational, recreational and spiritual activitiesen_ZA
