dc.description.abstractIn his article 'From mandates to economic partnerships: The return to proper statehood in Africa', Professor Hennie Strydom sets out to show how the Economic Partnership Agreements (EPAs) currently being negotiated between the European Union (EU) and groups of countries belonging to the African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) group of states would help establish stronger states in Africa. In this reply to Strydom's article, I set out why the EPAs are unlikely to play the role he foresees.en
