Role of the information specialist at University of Pretoria in 5 years' time

Abstract

This presentation was given at the Library Leaders Meeting at the University of Pretoria, Department of Library Services on 14 May 2012. The presentation provides an overview of the current role of the information specialist and the trends/drivers that will have an impact on the role. It also lists possible new roles for information specialists in the next 5 years. This is followed by an overview of the skills and competencies that will be needed to fulfil these new roles. A conceptual model illustrates the changes needed in the role of information specialists. The presenter concludes by suggesting ways to move information specialists to the desired future.
