We present an overview of common methods for modelling a signal contaminated by noise. Specifically discussed are the structure imposed on a model, the properties the noise assumed, some common statistical distributions for the noise and the Signal-to-Noise ratio as an indicator of the quality of the contaminated signal.en_US
