Faecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) refers to the infusion of faeces from a healthy donor, into the gastrointestinal tract of a recipient patient. There is considerable evidence for the efficacy of FMT for the treatment of recurrent Clostridium difficile infections and this treatment modality is recognised by the European Society for Microbiology and infectious diseases.en_ZA
