Abstract
DISTRIBUTION:
Exotic plant originally from Europe, growing in orchards, gardens, etc. and on disturbed soil in the south western Cape region.
BOTANICAL DESCRIPTION: General: • A common annual weed in the southern- and south-western coastal regions of the Cape Province. • When crushed, it releases a musk smell, but it is still eaten by sheep, goats and ostriches. • Grows ±300 mm high. Flowers: Flowering June - October.
TOXIC PRINCIPLE: Unknown photodynamic agent.
SYNDROMES: Photosensitivity without icterus.
SYSTEMS AFFECTED: Liver.
CLINICAL SIGNS: Photosensitivity without icterus.
