Paper presented at the 28th Annual Southern African Transport Conference 6 - 9 July 2009 "Sustainable Transport", CSIR International Convention Centre, Pretoria, South Africa.en_US
The paper describes the development of a prototype transport model to be used for high-level evaluation of a potentially large number of alternative land use-transport scenarios. It uses advanced logit modelling to capture travel behaviour change in a more theoretically tractable manner than the conventional four-step method. The model is designed specifically for fast implementation, with limited calibration needs, to assess a wide range of strategies including transport investment, land use strategies, and management interventions such as high occupancy vehicle lanes or road pricing. A prototype application of the UPTrans model as part of a demonstrative urban and regional growth modelling exercise for the Gauteng Global City Region is described.en_US
