The design and development of an Inventory Dashboard which will assist Umthombo Technologies in managing the inventory of Marley Pipe Systems

Abstract

Umthombo Technologies is a small consulting business and their main client is Marley Pipe Systems. Umthombo Technologies do Supply Chain Planning for Marley Pipe Systems and mainly covers Inventory Management. They use stable databases which consist of large Excel spreadsheets that contain all the necessary information needed to do the management. The need of a single overview of the current Inventory standings which will assist in managing the inventory levels calls for an inventory overview. Unfortunately all the important information, needed for the management of the Inventory, is scattered across a large amount of spreadsheets and inventory visibility is not good. The need of such an overview calls for an Inventory Dashboard. Research is done on Inventory Management, Visibility and Dashboards. All the important factors which affect inventory and the key performance indicators for inventory are researched and identified. This project consists of the design and development of an Inventory Dashboard which will assist Umthombo Technologies in managing Marley Pipe Systems’ inventory levels. The dashboard should show the inventory levels in terms of item and item group and show all the important inventory indicators, such as items on order, items being produced, cancelled sales, items in stock etc. This Inventory Dashboard’s purpose will be to provide a single view of Marley Pipe Systems’ current inventory standings and optimize the Inventory Management.
