The Faun was done as a commission for the estate of FJ Nettlefold Jr, a great admirer of Fanie Eloff. He created three such sculptures, of which the first two are apparently in Britain and the third was donated by Nettlefold to the Iziko National Art Museum in Cape Town . The portrait of a faun (a mythical creature half human and half goat) was inspired by Nijinsky’s 1912 ballet, Afternoon of a Faun and carved in both granite and marble.en_ZA
