Abstract
It took South Africa forty years since the first enactment of international data
privacy legislation to enact its own data privacy legislation in the form of the
Protection of Personal Information Act (PPI), despite the fact that the South
African Law Reform Commission (SALRC) took the first steps towards enacting
data privacy legislation in South Africa fifteen years ago.
