Abstract
Nanocomposites of ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer (EVAL) with Dellite organoclay were prepared in a laboratory extruder. The extent of intercalation of the nanocomposites was studied by field emission scanning electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction. It was established that the organoclay is well dispersed and preferentially embedded in the EVAL phase. Further, the intercalation degree of the organoclay decreased with increasing organoclay content. The mechanical properties of the nanocomposites were studied as a function of clay loading and EVAL type. The nanocomposites exhibited enhanced thermal stability as seen in thermogravimetric studies.
