Text version of a presentation delivered at the 10th International "Law via the Internet" Conference. Although there are many law journals and newsletters published in South Africa this paper refers specifically to academic law journals only. The author puts forward an argument for the open access of these journals. Argues that the editors and those involved in publishing South African academic law journals should make the change to open access of their journals so that all may benefit from the legal scholarship contained in the journal articles. Gives examples of successful open access journal publishing.en_US
