Abstract

The content of this report is centred upon Apex Valves (Pty) Ltd situated in Centurion, South Africa. Apex Valves is a supplier of plumbing and geyser valves. Their operations take place within four connected factory units and include receiving, storage shipment (warehousing aspects), as well as assembly, testing and packaging (assembly plant aspects). Space utilisation is currently a challenge for Apex Valves; improved layout and material handling is required. The aim of this project is to generate and define the best solution for optimal layout and process organisation within Apex Valves. Methods to be used include thorough research of warehousing and assembly process objectives, principles and requirements, followed by a Systematic Layout Planning procedure and the appropriate algorithmic computation.
