Abstract

This master's dissertation investigates the significance of the virtue of silence for Christian leaders, particularly from a Pentecostal church perspective, through the lens of Baldur Kirchner's theological works. Kirchner, a Catholic theologian, applies monastic principles to leadership, offering a broader understanding of silence beyond its traditional perception in Pentecostal church contexts. This study critically assesses Kirchner's views, analyzing his theological background and comparing them with Pentecostal church practices. The central research question guiding this study is: What is the significance of silence for Pentecostal leaders according to Baldur Kirchner? The dissertation examines Kirchner's interpretation of silence as a practice, a means of personal reflection, and a tool for effective communication and leadership. Additionally, it explores the influences that shaped Kirchner's understanding of silence, including monastic traditions, mysticism, and psychoanalysis. The findings suggest that Kirchner's comprehensive approach to silence, which integrates personal, interpersonal, and other dimensions, offers valuable insights for Pentecostal church leaders. The study highlights the transformative power of silence in developing personal maturity, enhancing leadership skills, and fostering a deeper connection with one's values.
