Extrajudicial killings, excessive use of force and violence by the Ghanaian police and military have become prevalent in Ghana and during the enforcement of COVID 19 directives, this was not any different. This research discusses the law of use of force by law enforcement and argues that Ghana's laws are not compatible with international standards. The research further discusses policing in Ghana and how the existing internal and external accountability mechanisms can be used to pursue accountability for unlawful killings by state agents. A case is made for the amendment of article 13 of the 1992 constitution and the creation of an independent oversight body that deals solely with cases of excessive use of force and violations of the right to life by state agents in Ghana.en_ZA
