dc.description.abstractEmployee engagement remains a noteworthy focus point amongst leaders and remains top of mind in organisations. The benefits of an engaged workforce leads to customer and market share growth, new and innovative ideas, increased levels of customer contentment and plays a momentous role in slowing down the attrition of talented employees. The role of an enthusiastic workforce to expedite growth in organisations has become more important than ever given the slow growth rate eminent in the economy. Work engagement consequently has an impact on organisational outcomes such as loyalty to the organisation as well as impetus from employees on tasks that may not necessarily be in their immediate scope of work. The research study examines whether talent management could effectively create engaged employees, more specifically engaged employees in the banking industry. Seventeen respondents from four of the largest banks, with head offices situated in Johannesburg, South Africa were interviewed in order to address the research objective. A qualitative research approached with the use of semi structured interviews was utilised by the researcher. Talent management is a long-standing concept evident in both academia and in business and serves as an instrument ready to be utilised by most leaders in industry the banking industry.en_ZA
