Implementation of WIM for direct enforcement of weight limits on the BQE concrete cantilever structures

Abstract

The presentation follows the development of the first Direct Enforcement program using WIM in the United States from the initial steps aimed at development of realistic live loads factors for the structural analysis to obtaining legislative authority and implementation. In parallel the effort evolved to develop a calibration certification test code that could be adopted by NIST Handbook 44 for use throughout the United States. The current status, data obtained from the program, upcoming expansion of program and challenges will close out the program.
