Abstract

Sustainable methods in asset management are approaches that ensure an asset remains functional over the long term without compromising the needs of future generations. This presentation aims to evaluate the sustainability and accuracy of asset management methods within the Southern African context, i.e. are we employing the appropriate methods for asset management in the Southern African context. In this presentation we ask if we understand the whole asset lifecycle cost. Are, or should we be including future technology, if not now, when? We collect data for Road Asset Management Systems. The data is evaluated based on condition values, we will review these and question if these are applicable for decision making with respect to decision making. We need to review who is responsible and what they should be responsible for. We then will look at various solutions and question how these apply in developing a culture of maintaining it before you must fix it.
