Abstract

The business environment has been interrupted by the integration of digital evolution and the need to save the environment and people. Thus, organisations must adapt to these interruptions to remain competitive in the work environment by employing the right skills and talent. Amidst the digital evolution and these needs, Gen Z has emerged as digital natives, representing a different generation from the older generations. Their distinction from the older generations enables them to accept and embrace these interruptions more readily. Therefore, businesses need to attract, onboard, and retain Gen Z employees so they can assist organisations in adapting to these rapid changes in the business environment and create a competitive advantage. The purpose of this research is to analyse the expectations of Gen Z that are critical for organisations to succeed, the influence of those expectations on changing organisational culture, how organisations are changing organisational culture, and shifts in organisational culture. Through in-depth semi-structured interviews, qualitative research was conducted to gain a deeper understanding of eight Gen Z employees and seven managers of Gen Z employees. The study's outcome highlighted the need to address Gen Z's expectations and demands to influence organisational culture change, resulting in a competitive advantage.
