Abstract
Dr Schalk van Rensburg passed away on the 5th of August 1989. He helped the veterinary profession in all its various facets to become established in South Africa and also laid the firm foundations on which veterinary education in South Africa stands. During his professional life he become one of the leading scientists on domsiekte and tick-borne paralysis in sheep
