Abstract
Estimates have been made that, annually,
up to about two billion tons of dust are carried
up into the atmosphere, mainly by dust
storms. One dust storm can lift and deposit
more than 200 tons of dust (Griffin et al.,
2002). The Arabian Peninsula has been
listed as one of five major dust-producing
regions (Idso, 1976), while Goudie (1983)
adds that dust storms are frequent in the
area.
