dc.description.abstract Photograph by Arthur Elliot depicting a typical blue-and-white V.O.C. dish in the Chinese Wanli style, provenance unknown. Decorated in underglaze blue, the monogram in the well is surrounded by pomegranates, cammellias and ho-ho birds. The border has alternating panels of bamboo and pomegranates. It was probably made in Arita, Japan, between 1660 and 1680. See also pages 186 and 188 of "Eighteenth Century Furniture in South Africa" by G. E. Pearse. en_US
