Decorations on wardrobes, Groote Schuur and Groot Constantia

Abstract

Measured preparatory drawings of wardrobe decorations. The top drawing shows the key block of an armoire at Groote Schuur in Cape Town. The two bottom drawings depict a key block and pilaster ornament on a corner cupboard at Groot Constantia. The final drawings, both by G.E. Pearse, respectively appear in Plate 42 on page 133, and in Plate 49 on page 150 of the 1960 edition of his book "Eighteenth Century Furniture in South Africa".
