dc.description.abstract The prevalence of non-communicable diseases in South Africa (SA) is increasing. Alarmingly, SA is one of the nations with the most obese people in the world. The incidence of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is similarly increasing. However, while healthcare policies focus on communicable and non-communicable diseases, advocacy for screening, immediate and long-term management and follow-up of GDM are lacking. en_ZA
