dc.description.abstract John Isaac Quin was born on 15 February 1900 in Klerksdorp, South Africa and died on 20 March 1950 in Pretoria, South Africa. Prof Quin obtained his BVSc (with honours) at the Transvaal University College in 1924 as one of the first class of students to graduate from the newly created Faculty of Veterinary Science at Onderstepoort. He was wellknown for pioneering research on immunity against anthrax and that the photodynamic agent in hepatogenous photosensitizations (such as geeldikkop and Lantana poisoning) is phylloerythrin, a degradation product of chlorophyll. dc.description.abstract He was a member of the 1st class of students to graduate from the newly created veterinary faculty at Onderstepoort. He was a staff member at the Onderstepoort Veterinary Institute from 1926 - 1950. Will probably best be remembered for determining with Rimington that the photodynamic agent in hepatogenous photosensitizations (such as geeldikkop and Lantana poisoning) was phylloerythrin, a degradation product of chlorophyll.
