Abstract:
Michiel Wilhelm Henning was born on the farm Denemarke in the Rouxville district of the Orange Free State on 27/10/1897. In 1915 he and four other South Africans (P J J Fourie, M W Sheppard, C P Neser and B S Parkin) proceeded to Dublin to study veterinary Science. He was awarded the Fitzwygram 2nd prize for the best veterinary student in the British Isles. After qualifying he returned to South Africa and served as lecturer in Anatomy at the Veterinary Faculty. Subsequently he was appointed Professor of Veterinary Science at the University of Pretoria. In 1938 he was awarded the DVSc degree by the University of South
